Great Britain's all-star football player Gary Neville is doing more for his country than just scoring goals; he's the owner of what could be the UK’s first carbon-neutral house. It’s not just eco-friendly, though. Neville’s house is an architectural wonder.

At first glance, it doesn’t look like a house at all, but a series of courtyards arranged like flower petals. Upon closer inspection, you notice that these well-landscaped courtyards actually delve down below the surface of the property, and that each patio contains a glass panel and/or door to an inner sanctum.

That inner sanctum is actually Neville’s nearly 10,000-square foot underground home. With such a large subterranean area, you would expect much of the home to be dark and dismal, but quite the opposite holds true. The house is bright and filled with light, thanks to several factors. Not only is the interior design spacious and filled with white furnishings and fixtures, but it’s those petal-shaped patios that infuse much of the house with natural light.
