Two Homes for Twice the Price?

by Jennifer Heyns

One of my all-time favorite movie quotes is from Jodi Foster’s Contact: “Why build one when you can build two, for twice the price?” I don’t know if this house in Slovenia cost twice as much as a typical home, but they sure did double up on the construction.

Built in the middle of a steep slope, the private residence called, “House, Which Captures the Water,” was designed as two completely separate entities.

Slovenian architecture firm Superform designed two structures for this home, and they’re as different as night and day. The first is somewhat large and vastly open with its metal and glass components, allowing in as much natural light as possible. It houses the more social areas like the living room, dining room and entertainment chamber. The large, amazing patio with a luxurious swimming pool is accessible through this structure’s sliding glass doors and can be overlooked from the second-floor balcony.
