When you live in a tropical, steamy climate, what’s the best way to design a house? After a natural species that thrives in that environment, of course. Located in Singapore, the Fish House has characteristics borrowed from sea life, helping it stay cool and comfortable even on the hottest of days.

Guz Architects designed the Fish House with vast open areas, which allow air (hopefully with ample tropical breezes) to constantly move through the house for natural ventilation. It’s quite a simple concept when you think about how a fish uses its gills for air.

Rooftops on the Fish House are simple yet creative. Each section of house is covered with a convex rectangular roof. A major portion is covered with photovoltaic panels that supply enough power to sustain the occupants’ activity, but are also reminiscent of fish scales across the surface of the home. Another section of rooftop is covered with greenery, giving the owners additional natural living spaces.
