Few homes speak to the soul of America like log and timber frame houses. The original ones are landmarks with 150 to 200 years of history. There’s something about traditional cabins that conjure up thoughts of soft quilts beside a warm fire and family time by candlelight. These homes are heart-warming and spirit-lifting - probably because they take us back to our roots, back to the first settlers whose spirit of adventure we share in our contemporary hi-tech lives.
And that likely explains the more than 4,000 homes that have been built for customers across the country since Hearthstone’s humble beginnings in 1971. Originally, the company restored old log homes in the southern Appalachian Mountains. When there were more requests than there were old logs, they branched out to create new homes comparable in design and built with the same moral fiber of those crafted by our ancestors.
Hearthstone offers houses that remind us of the backwoods log cabin with smoke billowing from the stone chimney, as well as substantial lodges that look like a ski lift should be around the next turn. Characteristic of the good ‘ole days and a handshake-seals-a-deal, Hearthstone’s owner, Randy Giles, promises an unheard-of guarantee that if you are not satisfied with your home or Hearthstone’s services, the crew will dismantle the house and give you a full refund. Also, the structure is guaranteed for life.
Who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to have their home built by these guys? Artist and furniture designer Bob Timberlake must have shared this same sentiment since he partnered with Hearthstone in 1994 to create a line of log homes. The company is definitely one-of-a-kind, crafting custom homes for more than 35 years.
