A decorator show house located in Manhattan? Now, you know that’s got to be one of the most fabulous show houses ever! The Kips Bay Decorator Show House is an annual event that features the work of dozens of designers. And we’re talking about some of the design industry’s superstars: Mario Buatta, Charlotte Moss, and Jamie Drake, to name a few.
The Kips Bay Decorator Show House has a philanthropic focus -- it benefits the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. This combination of high style and charitable contribution has proven so successful that this show house event is in its 37th year.
From the 2008 Show House Archives:
Surely this kitchen was designed with a big-city chef’s personal abode in mind! High tech, opulent... the epitome of urban sleek.

Hydrangeas, anyone? This simple, repetitious use of a single plant is so New York in style! Tucked into gray stone containers on gravel and concrete pavers, the green and white freshness of the hydrangeas makes for a knock-out high-rise terrace garden.

Somehow, it’s hard to imagine this child’s bedroom anywhere besides Manhattan. It brings to mind the fictional children whose lives were so vividly portrayed in The Nanny Diaries.

Although it appears that natural light is good in this vivid, high-gloss kitchen, many urban kitchen designs utilize brilliant colors and shiny surfaces to make up for the lack of natural sunlight so prevalent in many rooms of densely packed urban dwellings.

2009’s event took place in April, and was launched with a champagne reception with the designers and finished with an elegant black-tie dinner and entertainment. If this sounds like a great reason to plan a trip to the Big Apple next year, visit the Kips Bay Decorator Show House website for more information.
Oh! I have often liked the idea of living in an apartment smack bang in the middle of a city. This photo shot of the balcony is a copy picture that I have in my mind.
When can I move in? That balcony/breakfast nook would be like a second home within a home to me. What a view and to be able to bathe in all that glorious light in the midst of a city apartment? Heaven!
What type of remodeling job are you interested in?

The kitchen up top is exactly what I’d want for my house, modern and functional and in a small space. The atrocious orange creation on the bottom of the page however is exactly the kind of disaster I’d expect from an art-school student with a 60’s fetish. Please take it away, it hurts my eyes!
