3 Fun Backyard Island Getaways by Scott Cohen

Written by Beth Flanagan

Is something missing from your backyard landscape design, but you just can’t put your finger on it?  Maybe your yard needs an island of its own.

Creating an island is a smart way to break up a yard and add visual appeal. It creates a private and intimate place to enjoy your hot tub or fire pit, a whimsical spot for dining, a quiet area to relax on the hammock, or a focal point for flower beds. Creating an island effect can be done by linking stepping stones or a garden bridge to your island.

Bridges add texture and character to your landscape as well as provide a transition from one area of your backyard to your island. You can create a creek or dry bed filled with river rock, flowers, or plants for your bridge to cross.

What others have said

I do like the calming zen island with the little garden bridge. This is very nice and it does not so relaxing and low maintenance.

Whilst I like the effort and it is very pleasant, It is a bit too busy for me. Too many ups and downs, all man made.
