If you think you’ve seen it all before, look again. The Evolver is a structure like no other. Conceived and built by students at the Alice Studio of L’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, this building is made completely from wood and sits perched over an alpine lake in Switzerland.

The Evolver consists of 24 round wooden frames with additional wooden slats for support and enclosure. The structure twists and curves 720 degrees (that’s two complete circles) to become an all-inclusive observation chamber. The purpose of the building is to give visitors a slowly evolving change of scenery. You can walk the entire structure and little by little, get different views of the gorgeous Swiss landscape - beautiful snow-capped mountains, serene lake, grassy expanses, winding country roads and astonishing starry night skies.

But the view of scenery is meant to be somewhat obstructed. This allows the designers to control and manipulate how visitors interpret their surroundings. By entering the pavilion, you agree to view the world as they have intended it – in beautiful but potentially frustrating cross-sectioned views. Maybe it’s all about the anticipation?
