It represents the circle of life, the age-old question of which came first, and of course, breakfast. But did you know that the egg is also a symbol of creative architecture? The Eggo House by Prague-based A69 Architects came about as an innovative solution to quite the structural conundrum.

These were the rules: the home could not impose on the existing property, nearby parking spaces or central garden area. The result? A square-shaped home with the rounded middle section cut out, sort of like a donut. As unusual as the structure looks from above, the home is amazing at ground level. Every room has a great view of the courtyard garden, which is the focal feature and thus takes central stage. Communal areas exist with squared-off edges to the rear and curved planes toward the center. Patios and walkways alternate around the perimeter.

One section of the house has been divided into private bedrooms – these are not so exposed to the garden. The dining and living room, however, enjoy wide open views through glass enclosure compositions.

This structure is oddly natural and lovely. The form is organic, especially with the grown trees in the courtyard and small gardens nestled under the narrower curves of the roofline.
This leaves just one question: is there another house out there with a chicken-shaped hole in the middle, and if so, which came first – the chicken-void or the ovoid?
