"If things get any worse we're going to have to live in a cave somewhere."

It's the backup plan as old as humankind but, in a very odd sign of the times, that plan may have fallen through once and for all. A couple from Missouri have been forced to put their cave home up for auction on eBay because of the current recession. The family, which includes three young children, spent the last five years building their home inside the cave. They literally lived like cavemen during that time, sleeping in tents and washing dishes in buckets in the back of the cave.

Their "Flintstonian" home was once the Caveland Ice Rink until Wayne Curtis Sleeper and his wife Deborah bought it. Now times are just too hard to afford the 17,000 square foot spelunker's dream. Their cave is regrettably up for auction on eBay. Even still the Sleeper's are hoping that someone will come in and refinance their mortgage for them rather than boot them out. Nevertheless, not even caves are safe from tough times and the Sleepers are asking for a minimum bid of $300,000. So far 70 people have pre-registered for the auction (a requirement), which ends on March 11.
Oh! How sad for this couple. The dream! The hard work! The past! All now up to Ebay! I would welcome response on how this couple have regrouped and who is enjoying the unique living quarters of this unique home?
What type of remodeling job are you interested in?

This is a truely unique home. I bet the a/c bill is low. Really creative.
