Futuristic Toilets

Written by Jennifer Heyns

Studies show that 9 out of 10 adults are actually NOT toilet-trained. Ever since potty tech took off, it seems that people are no longer in know when it comes to smart toilet function. It's not enough to just sit, do your business and flush - these days, a trip to the loo can be quite an experience.

Space age toilet

Here’s a toilet that’s actually very scary - it might send some big boys and girls back to diaper days. You can come across one of these puppies in Japan, where it's a fairly normal bathroom amenity. But personally, I’m more than a little skeptical about a toilet that has more functions than my backside.

Naturally, the Japanese have cornered the market on high-tech potties. Toto has designed a wireless toilet with a 38- or 18-button panel. It has one button for a heavy-doody flush and one just for tinkles. Three different buttons lower & raise the toilet seat and lid, separately or together. Oh, and don’t forget about the button that “stops all operations” - tell me, is that, like, for when you hear someone coming and you don’t want them to know you're peeing? Just push button #6 and all rivers cease to flow!

There are two different buttons for washing your - let's just come out and say it - anus. You have the choice of “soft” or “regular.” Love that emphasis on comfort. But only one button for washing the vulva, Mulva (or was it Delores?). Yep, Seinfeld meets potty humor everyday here at bestofremodeling.com!

This high-tech Toto also has a blow dryer, although unless it's self-cleaning, I’m not sure I’d want to style my hair down there, especially with the circulating nozzle.

Futuristic toilet

One has to wonder if this was really what science & innovation were meant for. Isn’t it bad enough that we spend a good portion of our day bathing, drying, styling, primping, moisturizing, conditioning, deodorizing and plucking in front of the mirror - do we really need 38 more reasons to feel unprepared?
