The writing’s on the wall…or, in this case, the utility box. Graffiti art replaces gang graffiti and provides artscape for passersby. Created by a German fellow who goes by the name of Evol (love spelled backwards), urban art in the form of buildings is stenciled onto telecommunication power boxes and concrete surfaces throughout the streets of German cities.

Evol uses multicolored stencils to mask unattractive eyesores. The three-dimensional pictures of buildings reflect a message or mood to society – a symbolic expression of freedom from manmade industrial blight by embracing the blight.

The clever Bohemian has taken his adaptive art concept to a transatlantic level and onto the streets of Washington, DC, where a couple of curious strollers stop to check out this awesome new art piece.

Besides adding texture and interest, the art appeals to the senses on a cultural level and celebrates individual modes of expression. In an indirect way, it serves as a vehicle to communicate a realistic depiction of urban humanity.
