Hollywood Mansion or Outdoor Movie Theater?

The answer, friends, is both. Spacious living, in-home entertainment and breathtaking city views describe the Skyline Residence. Completed in 2007 by the Belzberg Architects, the 5,800-square-foot home, impressive home theater system, guest house and garage sit high atop a ridgeline in the Hollywood Hills. Total cost? $180 per square foot.
These people really know how to live. Check out this drive-in theater-esque entertainment system. Films are projected onto the home’s exterior wall and viewed from a landscaped rooftop deck with built-in surround sound. The image quality is just amazing.
Residents can even alternate between watching the film and gazing at those city lights. Who needs crowded movie theaters when the world is your silver screen?
This is such a sexy house. With the calming blue-lit water of the infinity-edged pool mixed with dreamy purple skyline, there’s really no need for artwork. Minimal furniture and the hanging orb fireplace ensure unobstructed views of the outdoors.
Perched atop a steep hillside, the Skyline’s sand beige exterior and rich wood slats are designed to blend into the natural environment while keeping optimal space for native bushes and plants. The residents use eco-friendly fixtures throughout the home and their landscaping requires minimal maintenance and irrigation.
The wood-slatted wall was designed to achieve protection from sunlight during the hot L.A. summers and achieve maximum daylight during winter months. Because the southwest side of the home is baked with afternoon sun, they built oversized eaves, created an interior corridor as a heat buffer between the glazing and bedrooms, and of course, installed the custom slat screen for shading.
Circulation is essential in large homes. The oversized double doors on both sides of the living room allow plenty of fresh air flow.
The space between the home, guest house and auto court is well-balanced and creates a sense of community. The entire estate is brilliant in design. It almost makes me long for Hollyweird… just kidding.
