As if it weren't cool enough to live on the beach, Australian architects Chenchow Little found a way to develop a seaside house with tremendous views – no matter which side of the fence you're on.

Freshwater House, located in Sydney, Australia, has been broken up into three distinct segments, each subsequent segment sitting atop the last. What could have been designed as a traditional three-story home was instead planned as if each floor were unique and thus deserved a façade of its own.

Above the basement is what the architects call “the podium.” It’s an above-ground level that surpasses the basement in size, jutting out from its lofty position with a modest overhang, but also adding to the scale and scope of the house with a suspended area that shades the outdoor patio.

On top of this level is yet another, even more grand, section of the house. This master suite appears to be floating in midair to onlookers from the beach.

Although seafarers may be ogling and pondering the mysteries of this house design, they won’t be disturbing the privacy of the residents. The bedroom level is completely veiled with custom-made external bi-folding shutters, which allow the owners to make the room as lit, shaded, private or open as they desire at any given moment.

Freshwater House may be located in the Down Under, but they’ve definitely found a way to bring architecture to new heights.
