"Show Us Your Style" Contest Winner Announced
America has voted, and Joan Sullivan of Nottingham has won. The contest wasn't "American Idol," but Moen Incorporated's annual "Show Us Your Style" remodeling contest.
Sullivan was among numerous homeowners across the country who posted their kitchen or bath remodeling stories online between August 1 – October 19 in the hopes of receiving the $9,000 cash prize and $1,000 in Moen products. After Moen narrowed the contestants down to eight finalists, the public finished up with a two-week voting period in November.
Sullivan's project consisted of expanding her small kitchen to create a large prep area and ample gathering space for guests and family. Popular upgrades among the other finalists include expansion to create an "open" and "airy" feeling, replacing outdated colors and textures, and forming a visual impression while improving functionality.
Sullivan recommends homeowners do their own research on products, never relying on anyone, even a remodeling contractor, to make those important decisions for them. "Decide which facets of the project you can do yourself," she tells Show Us Your Style, "and tackle them once the contractors are gone."
